Giving and Volunteering

Anyone interesting in volunteering at IROC, please contact Sue Engel at 334-8511 M-F before 12 noon.

IROC Community Center is a busy place.  It is fast becoming a sports, fitness, and recreation center for the entire community, young and old alike.  And we couldn't do what we do without the help of countless contributors and volunteers.  Last year alone, IROC received donations, large and small, from over 250 contributors and donations of well over 5,000 hours of volunteer time, from IROC's hearty volunteers, its board, and area businesses.

While membership and program fees cover almost all of our daily operational expenses, we still rely on the generosity of individuals, corporations, private foundations, associations, and organizations to fund certain other special programs and activities. It is YOUR generosity in the form of volunteered time, services and donations that makes this place very special.

IROC received its non-profit determination letter from the Internal Revenue Service in 1989; thus, all gifts to support the program are tax deductible under current IRS guidelines. Our Tax-exempt ID # is: 03-0316525.

Consider the many different reasons to support IROC:

* Adopt-A-Town so that all youth in your community can enjoy free membership to IROC and its Kids Zone after school and during vacations.

* Make a donation to support free public access to IROC's indoor, padded, low impact, 1/10th of a mile Rotary Walking Track.

* Support IROC's ground breaking and highly successful Healthy Changes Initiative and Keep it Moving programs for seniors and for people suffering from chronic conditions such as diabetes, obesity, and heart disease.

Consider the many different ways to support IROC:

* Send a check made payable to Indoor Recreation of Orleans County (or IROC) to our offices at 400 Quarry Road, PO Box 558, Derby, VT 05829-0558.

* Make your secure online contribution through Pay Pal by clicking on one of the links below.

* Make a gift-in-kind of an item on IROC's "Wish List" (available at the Front Desk in the Main Lobby).

* Join IROC's deferred giving program.  We will be happy to put you in touch with our pro bono development specialist if a deferred gift is more appropriate for your circumstances.

* Join the hearty band of IROC volunteers (see below)

Whatever opportunity you may choose, know that you will be investing in the present and the future of our community.

Consider Volunteering at IROC

"The first time I walked through the front door and saw those kids playing in the Sports Center I knew this was the place for me!" (Comment from an IROC volunteer)

"I had a 6-year old ask me if he would be doing a Power Point Presentation as part of his after-school activities. I didn't even know what Power Point was until I was in my 60s!" (Comment from an IROC Board member)

Your time is precious ... we know that, and we appreciate it.

IROC treasures the wonderful people who choose to give their time to us, and we try to match our volunteers' talents with the many different opportunities that we have waiting for them. Consider the following possibilities:

* Working directly with Front Desk staff by becoming a Volunteer Ambassador.

* Helping with fund raising activities, media relations, or mailing lists and databases.

* Helping to manage the office and work on IROC's business affairs.

* Teaching one of our recreational or technology classes.

* Helping to organize our special events and activities.

Whatever your particular talent may be, if you have some time and want to share that talent with IROC, you will be most welcome. And, if you can offer us at least twenty hours per month of scheduled volunteer services, IROC, through its Volunteer Exchange Program, will be happy to exchange a monthly membership with you as our way of saying "Thanks."

If you know already that you want to be a part of our "family of volunteers," please print out and complete one of our Volunteer Forms and return it to the Front Desk.
